The NBA Cup spotlight is back on San Antonio tonight as the Spurs host the Golden State Warriors in a rematch at Frost Bank Center, where the Spurs are modest -2.5 favorites with a total around 233.5 points.  San Antonio enters at 8–3, one of the West’s early surprise contenders, while Golden State sits at 7–6 after stealing Wednesday’s matchup 125–120 behind a vintage outburst from Stephen Curry. 

That first meeting showcased the ceiling of both offenses. Curry exploded for 46 points, but the Spurs still poured in 120 and got a monstrous 31-point, 15-rebound, 10-assist triple-double from Victor Wembanyama.  Even in defeat, San Antonio’s ability to generate efficient looks against Golden State’s defense was obvious, and the underlying season numbers back that up: the Spurs are averaging 119.4 points per game and allowing just 112.5, while the Warriors sit at 115.5 scored and 115.1 allowed.  That superior net margin, especially this early, hints that San Antonio has been the more stable two-way team.

Situationally, the edge also tilts toward the home side. San Antonio is 5–1 at home, compared with Golden State’s 2–6 road record, a stark split that magnifies the Spurs’ comfort level in their own building.  Golden State’s offense has been strong (113.9 offensive rating), but it has leaned heavily on Curry’s heroics.  Asking him to replicate another 40+ performance on short rest, on the road, against a locked-in defense keyed by Wembanyama’s length, is a tough bet on variance.

The Spurs, meanwhile, can build on what already worked: Wembanyama consistently pressured the rim, De’Aaron Fox and Devin Vassell attacked Golden State’s shaky perimeter defense, and San Antonio’s pace kept the Warriors scrambling.  With the better overall efficiency profile, stronger home/road split, and clear motivation to respond after Wednesday’s narrow loss, San Antonio is in a prime position to win this rematch and cover the short -2.5 spread tonight.
