Tonight’s Brooklyn Nets–Denver Nuggets matchup tips at 9:00 p.m. ET, and the line has Denver laying -7.5. 

The records explain the point: Brooklyn comes in 12–33 (6–16 away) and has lost six straight, while Denver sits 31–16 (12–9 at home).  More importantly, the efficiency gap has been real all season. The Nuggets own a 122.0 offensive rating and a +4.4 net rating, while the Nets sit at 111.2 on offense with a 118.5 defensive rating (net -7.3). 

The injury report is the main variable. Denver will be without Nikola Jokić (left knee bone bruise) and Aaron Gordon (right hamstring strain), with Christian Braun also out, but Jamal Murray is listed probable.  Losing an MVP is never trivial — yet this isn’t unfamiliar territory. Denver is 9–6 in games without Jokić this season, which speaks to a system that still creates quality looks through spacing, pace control, and smart shot selection. 

Brooklyn’s list isn’t clean either: Cam Thomas is out, Terance Mann is questionable, and several rotation pieces are already ruled out.  That matters because the Nets’ offense has been shaky even at full strength, averaging 107.8 points per game. 

Why the Nuggets are positioned to cover: Denver’s offense is built to punish mistakes and avoid empty possessions. On the season, the Nuggets average 28.0 assists and 12.6 turnovers per game, while the Nets average 25.3 assists with 15.4 turnovers — a swing that can quickly turn a close game into a two-possession cushion.  Add in Denver’s “margin makers” (39.4% from three and 81.7% at the line), and you have the profile of a home favorite that can extend late rather than just trade buckets. 

Game script to watch: if Murray is active and Denver’s second unit keeps the ball moving, Brooklyn may struggle to generate efficient half-court looks for four quarters. That’s where the spread gets covered — steady, low-mistake possessions that build separation.

Pick: Nuggets -7.5. The combination of home court, a major efficiency edge, and Brooklyn’s short-handed scoring profile makes Denver the better bet to win by multiple possessions.
