Warriors vs. Clippers – Preview

Golden State heads to Los Angeles tonight to face the Clippers at 7:00 p.m. PT.  The market has the Warriors favored by 3.5, and the matchup sets up well for Golden State because the gap between these teams has been real all season: the Warriors enter 19-17, while the Clippers sit at 12-22. 

The clearest edge for Golden State is defensive consistency. The Warriors currently rank 5th in the NBA in Defensive Rating (112.4), a profile that travels better than shooting alone.  They also play a style that can break weaker defenses: Golden State is 4th in assist percentage (69.9), and they lean heavily into the “three-point math” — they lead the league in total threes made (573) and get 41.5% of their points from three-pointers. 

Injuries tilt the board further toward the favorite. For the Warriors, Seth Curry is out (sciatic nerve issue), but the rotation is otherwise relatively clean.  The Clippers, meanwhile, have multiple key names on the report — most notably James Harden is questionable with right shoulder soreness, and Bogdan Bogdanović and Derrick Jones Jr. are out.  If Harden is limited (or sits), it puts an even bigger creation burden on Kawhi Leonard and increases the chances of empty possessions late.

Yes, Golden State has been uneven away from home (8-12) and this is still an NBA road game.  But the Warriors are coming off a controlled 123-114 win over Utah, while L.A. was just dismantled 146-115 by Boston — and even a modest shooting night should be enough if Golden State wins the possession battle and keeps the Clippers out of transition. 

Best bet lean: Warriors -3.5 — better defense, better shot profile, and the injury report favors Golden State.
