Kings vs. Clippers – Preview

Sacramento heads to Inglewood tonight for a tough spot against the Clippers, and the number is big for a reason: L.A. is laying -10.5. 

Start with availability. Sacramento is missing Zach LaVine (left ankle sprain) and Domantas Sabonis (left knee; partial meniscus tear) on the NBA’s official 5:15 PM injury report.  Those are two huge pieces of their scoring and structure—especially Sabonis, who’s typically the hub that keeps their half-court offense organized and their glass competitive. The Clippers aren’t perfectly healthy either (Ivica Zubac out, plus Bradley Beal out, Bogdan Bogdanovic out, and John Collins questionable), but L.A.’s current identity is being driven by its star wings and shot creation more than pure interior play. 

And right now, Kawhi Leonard is absolutely cooking. He just dropped a career-high 55 points in a 112–99 win over Detroit, and that game pushed the Clippers to a season-best four-game winning streak.  Even more telling: ESPN’s recap notes Leonard is averaging 39.0 points over his last four games—that’s the kind of heater that can turn a “win” into a “win going away.” 

On the other side, Sacramento’s season profile screams “vulnerable to separation.” The Kings enter 8–24 (3–14 on the road), and they’ve been outscored by 10.4 points per game overall (a -332 scoring differential).  In a late-night road game against a Clippers team finally stringing together complete efforts, that margin matters—because it means when things start slipping, they tend to slip fast.
