Raptors vs. Heat – Preview

Our Pick: Heat -5.5

Tonight at 7:30 p.m. ET, the Miami Heat (14-11) welcome the Toronto Raptors (15-11) to Kaseya Center with both clubs trying to snap four-game skids. Miami is laying around 5.5–6 points in the market (listed as -6 at FOX Sports), and the spot lines up for a strong “bounce-back” showing at home. 

Start with the split: the Heat have been dominant in their building (10-3), while Toronto has been solid on the road (7-5).  Miami’s season scoring profile also gives them cushion—ESPN has the Heat at 121.7 points per game versus 115.8 for Toronto, and that higher-output offense makes it easier to separate late. 

The availability report tilts Miami’s way, too. Toronto lists RJ Barrett out (right knee sprain), a meaningful hit to wing scoring and secondary creation. Miami, meanwhile, has Tyler Herro available (right big toe contusion).  If Toronto’s shot-making dips without Barrett, they can struggle to keep pace with a Heat team that can manufacture points in multiple ways.

Defensively, Miami has the profile you want as a favorite. TeamRankings lists the Heat allowing about 1.086 points per possession and holding opponents to 51.8% effective field goal percentage (53.1% on twos, 33.5% on threes).  The tempo can magnify those stops: TeamRankings also has Miami playing faster (108.9 possessions per game) than Toronto (103.2), which means a few empty trips can quickly flip into a 7–2 run and a gap that’s tough to close on the road. 

The “cover” case is about execution. FOX Sports notes Miami has been favored 11 times and won seven of those games, and has taken three of the last four head-to-head meetings with Toronto.  With Toronto also in a rough ATS stretch (eight straight non-covers, per FOX), Miami is in the best position to turn a tight game into a 6–10 point win at the finish. 

MST angle: if the Heat defend without fouling, win the turnover battle, and keep Toronto out of transition, this is the type of matchup where Miami can cover -5.5 even if the total creeps toward 238.5.
