Tonight’s Thursday Night Football matchup at Ford Field isn’t an NBA game at all, but a massive Week 14 NFL showdown between the Dallas Cowboys (6-5-1) and the Detroit Lions (7-5), kicking off at 8:15 p.m. ET on Amazon Prime.  Detroit sits as about a field-goal home favorite (market numbers hovering around Lions -3, with some books offering alternate lines to -3.5). 

Offensively, both teams are elite, but Detroit’s profile at home helps justify laying more than a field goal. The Lions rank top-three in the NFL at 29.2 points per game, while the Cowboys sit just ahead at 29.3 – making this a clash of two of the league’s highest-scoring attacks.  Crucially, Detroit’s scoring jumps to 32.0 points per game at home, whereas Dallas averages only 25.8 on the road, a sizeable split that leans toward the Lions covering a number in the -3 to -3.5 range. 

Detroit’s balance and efficiency give them a strong path to exploit a vulnerable Dallas defense. The Lions have piled up 4,515 yards of total offense with 43 touchdowns, outgaining opponents by over 700 yards and owning a +5 turnover differential.  Their ground game has been particularly punishing: 1,657 rushing yards at 5.0 yards per carry while holding opponents to just 3.9 per rush, a physical style that plays perfectly with a home crowd and helps protect any second-half lead. 

Dallas, led by Dak Prescott, can certainly score, but their defense has been leaky overall. The Cowboys have surrendered 4,514 yards – 376.2 per game over 12 contests – putting them firmly in the bottom half of the league in yardage allowed.  Against a Lions offense that already averages six yards per play and thrives on sustained drives, that yardage profile is a red flag for anyone backing Dallas to keep this inside a field goal. 

With one of the NFL’s most efficient home offenses, a positive turnover profile, a powerful rushing attack, and a noisy indoor environment amplifying their edge, Detroit is well-positioned not just to win, but to create enough separation to cover a spread in the neighborhood of -3.5 against a Cowboys defense that has struggled to get stops for much of 2025.
