Denver Nuggets vs. Phoenix Suns
Nuggets vs. Suns – Preview
Saturday, 9:00pm ET • Mortgage Matchup Center
Our Pick: Nuggets -2.5
Saturday night’s matchup in Phoenix pits two Western Conference contenders headed in opposite emotional directions, with the Denver Nuggets laying -2.5 on the road against the Suns. Denver enters at 13–5 after Friday’s 139–136 NBA Cup loss to San Antonio, while Phoenix sits 12–7 following group play and a narrow 123–119 defeat at Oklahoma City.
Despite that setback, Denver has looked like an offensive buzzsaw all season. The Nuggets lead the league at 124.5 points per game and rank among the NBA’s top teams with a +9.2 net rating, reflecting how consistently they outscore opponents. StatMuse pegs their offensive rating at an elite 124.8 per 100 possessions. Nikola Jokić is again the engine, averaging 29.1 points per game while leading the league in both rebounds (12.6) and assists (11.0) per night, essentially a nightly triple-double threat. Jamal Murray adds 24.0 points per game and is coming off a 37-point effort in the Cup loss to San Antonio as Denver hung 136 points in defeat.
Phoenix, meanwhile, has been scrappy but taxed. The Suns just finished a physical Cup game in Oklahoma City, where turnovers (29–12 Thunder edge in points off giveaways) proved costly. They’ve also dropped two of their last three, including a 114–92 blowout loss at Houston, with only a 112–100 road win in Sacramento breaking up the skid. Devin Booker is still driving the offense at 25.8 points, 4.5 rebounds and 6.9 assists per game, and Phoenix has leaned on an aggressive defense that, per team coverage, leads the league in steals.
Situationally, though, this sets up well for Denver to cover a short -2.5. Phoenix is on the second night of a back-to-back after a high-intensity Cup contest, and they’re expected to be without key rim protector Mark Williams, weakening their interior against Jokić. Denver’s league-best offense and sizeable efficiency edge, combined with the Suns’ recent turnover issues and fatigue spot, give the Nuggets a strong profile to control the tempo late and extend margin beyond the small road number.
