Denver hosts San Antonio in NBA Cup group play tonight at Ball Arena, where the Nuggets come in 13–4 and the Spurs 12–5. Most books have Denver as a 7.5-point home favorite with a total around 238.5, and tip is set for 9:30 p.m. ET. 

Denver’s case to cover starts with an elite, fully weaponized offense. The Nuggets are averaging 123.8 points per game, tops in the league, on 50.6% shooting from the field and 37.8% from three.    Their 124.3 offensive rating ranks No. 1 and their +10.0 net rating sits third, underscoring how consistently they win by margin.    Nikola Jokić is playing at MVP level again, putting up 29.6 points, 12.8 rebounds and 11.1 assists per night, while Jamal Murray adds 23.2 points per game as the secondary scorer. 

San Antonio has been one of the season’s early surprises, pairing a top-10 offense (118.2 offensive rating) with a top-five defense (111.7 defensive rating).    But the matchup tilts sharply because of injuries: the Spurs are expected to be without Victor Wembanyama and lead guard Stephon Castle, both listed as out, stripping them of their leading scorer, elite rim protector and primary table-setter.    Denver is also missing Aaron Gordon and rotation wings Christian Braun and Julian Strawther, yet its core Jokić-Murray engine remains intact. 

Trend-wise, Denver has been covering numbers like this. The Nuggets are 11–6 against the spread (ATS) overall, 7–3 ATS in their last 10, and 7–4 ATS when favored by 7.5 or more.    San Antonio, by contrast, sits at 7–7–3 ATS and just 2–4–1 ATS on the road, where their defense has been more vulnerable.    Factor in Denver’s 6–2 record at home as a moneyline favorite and their +10 net rating, plus a Spurs team coming off a road win in Portland on Wednesday, and the situational and statistical edges both lean Nuggets. 

Put together, Denver’s elite efficiency, Jokić’s matchup advantage against a Wembanyama-less frontcourt, and superior ATS profile make the Nuggets well positioned to cover the -7.5 spread at home tonight.
