The NFC East race takes center stage Sunday as the 8-2 Philadelphia Eagles visit the 4-5-1 Dallas Cowboys at AT&T Stadium in a marquee Week 12 showdown. The market currently makes Philadelphia a short road favorite around -3, reflecting their superior form and overall profile despite Dallas’ home-field advantage and explosive offense. 

Philadelphia brings the steadier, more complete team into this matchup. The Eagles sit atop the NFC East at 8-2 and have gone 33-11 since the start of 2023, one of the NFL’s best multi-year runs.  They’ve won with balance, scoring 234 points (23.4 per game) while allowing just 201 (20.1 per game), a strong defensive profile in an offense-driven league.  Their defense has been particularly effective at keeping games in the low- to mid-20s, exactly the kind of environment that favors a short favorite needing only a field-goal margin to cover.

Dallas, meanwhile, is living on the edge. The Cowboys are 4-5-1 but incredibly have scored 296 points (29.6 per game) while giving up 293 (29.3 per game), suggesting plenty of shootouts and defensive inconsistency.  They move the ball through the air (258.7 passing yards per game) and on the ground (120.0 rushing yards), yet their defense has struggled, allowing 249.9 passing yards and 131.4 rushing yards per contest.  That leaky run defense is a concern against an Eagles offense built around Jalen Hurts and Saquon Barkley, who have already powered Philadelphia to a Week 1 win over Dallas, 24-20. 

From a matchup standpoint, Philadelphia’s ability to control tempo on the ground and play sound defense is key against a volatile Cowboys team. If the Eagles can sustain drives and force Dallas to operate from behind the sticks, the Cowboys’ high-output offense becomes more turnover- and mistake-prone, magnifying their defensive shortcomings. With an 8-2 overall record and a 4-1 road mark versus Dallas’ 2-1-1 home record, the Eagles have consistently traveled well. 

Combine Philadelphia’s multi-year consistency, defensive edge, and previous win over Dallas this season with a manageable -3 number, and the Eagles look well-positioned to cover in this Week 12 divisional clash.
